I have a new fashion hate: the mullet dress.
Exhibit A: Jessica Alba at some awards ceremony or other (‘Hottest Body’, probably – I don’t think she wins many plaudits for her acting):

Exhibit B: A Stella McCartney mullet dress on the catwork, and also on Stella herself and on her friend, Liv Tyler (who is an absolute dimwit, I have it on good authority):

Exhibit C: the Glassons version (Non-Kiwis – Glassons is NZ’s answer to Topshop, and provides a reliable barometer to whether a mental fashion trend is likely to make it onto the backs of normal people here):

That Glassons version is being called a ‘high low maxi dress’ by them. I think it would actually be a cute summer frock if it was cut to just above the knee and didn’t have that silly hemline.
I just don’t see any point in a mullet dress. Can anybody offer an argument in their favour?
I think that Glassons one is really cute like that! And I own a few mullet-y dresses, one of which you said you liked! Were you really thinking ‘ugh a gross mullet dress.’
I don’t remember you wearing a mullet dress! I mustn’t have noticed the back of it because I was too overcome by your great beauty. Lucky!
And I still want to know what the point of a mullet dress is, so as a self-confessed mullet dress wearer, you need to tell me. Is it just so you don’t have to bother about shaving the back of your legs? That’s pretty lazy, Katie…
Lucky me! No, I like them because I like wearing slightly longer dresses, but if I wear one the length of the back my legs look short and I look like a devout religious person and if I wear one the length of the front I look skanky so its a perfect mix of looking prudish and skanky!
Hahaha! OK, you’ve made a very strong argument in their favour!
